This round stoneware cup features Hakeme, a traditional white porcelain slip decoration brushed onto concrete-like grey tone clay using a hake brush. It was hand-thrown, hand-brushed, and fired at 1230ºC.
The interior is fully glazed for everyday use, offering a smooth, functional finish that contrasts with the textured exterior. The clean, upright form sits comfortably in the hand, while the hand-applied slip introduces gentle movement and variation across each piece.
The design is inspired by the rugged landscapes of the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors, blending elements of my Japanese heritage with the textures of the countryside.
Each cup is unique, with hand-applied brush marks that add a sense of movement and individuality to the piece.
